What Items are Accepted for Free at the Vancouver Zero Waste Centre?
The Vancouver Zero Waste Centre (located on Yukon Street) provides free drop-off services for Vancouver residential customers. To ensure acceptance, items must be clean, dry, and properly sorted.
Accepted items for free disposal include:
- Electronics: Including devices with batteries removed.
- Small appliances: Household machines and power tools.
- Recyclables: Clean paper, cardboard (broken down and flattened), and soft plastics.
- Containers: Glass, plastic, and metal containers (must be rinsed and free of food residue), as well as refundable containers.
- Scrap Metal: Both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Household Hazardous Waste: Including paint (in original containers), batteries, light bulbs, used oil, antifreeze, filters, and propane tanks.
Important Note: While the centre accepts many items for free, residential proof of address may be required. Certain materials like drywall or mixed construction debris require specialized handling and may be directed to other facilities like the Vancouver South Transfer Station.
