What Items are Accepted at the Vancouver Zero Waste Centre?
The Vancouver Zero Waste Centre (which is part of the same network as the South Transfer Station) serves as a primary hub for various residential drop-offs. We find that knowing exactly what is accepted can make your trip much smoother.
Key items accepted at this facility include:
- Electronics and Small Appliances: Most household electronics and small appliances can be dropped off at no cost.
- Hazardous Waste: Small quantities of household hazardous waste, such as paint, batteries, and used motor oil, are accepted at the dedicated Recycle BC container.
- Recyclables: Mixed recyclables including paper, plastic, glass, and metal containers, as well as cardboard.
- Yard and Wood Waste: Yard trimmings, plant material, and clean, untreated wood.
- Scrap Metal: Various scrap metal items and appliances that are Freon-free.
- Tires: Accepted both with or without rims.
- General Garbage: Household waste is accepted, though tipping fees apply based on weight.
Please note that an appointment may be required for certain items at the Zero Waste Centre, and some materials like asbestos-containing items, liquid waste, and medical waste are strictly prohibited. We do not handle asbestos-containing materials ourselves, and any unstamped drywall requires professional testing before disposal.
If you would rather skip the sorting and the trip to the transfer station, we offer eco friendly junk removal in Vancouver. Our team handles the heavy lifting and ensures your items are disposed of responsibly. Contact us for a FREE QUOTE—we give you peace of mind, one piece at a time.
